IB application

Current 8th graders interested in applying for entrance to the IB program for Fall 2013 should download the IB application. The application requires a complete middle school transcript, four letters of recommendation from current teachers, and an application handwritten by the student. Deadline to apply is December 13, 2012. If you are interested in applying after this deadline, contact the IB office.

We read completed IB applications after a student has been accepted for enrollment at Littleton High School. See the enrollment page of the website for links to the open-enrollment forms and process.

Letters regarding IB admissions decisions are mailed beginning in early February.

Timeline for applying

The IB Application for current 8th graders is linked above. Deadline to apply is December 13, 2012. Current 8th graders interested in applying after this deadline should contact the IB department.

The Littleton Public Schools Open Enrollment process begins October 1. Students applying for IB must have been accepted to Littleton High School before they can be accepted into the IB program. While open enrollment and IB are two separate applications, they may be submitted simultaneously. See the Counseling/enrollment page of the website for dates, forms, and procedures.

IB admissions letters are mailed beginning in early February.

Why apply in 8th grade?

The IB Diploma Program (IB DP) is a two-year course of study during the 11th and 12th grades. Why, then, do we ask 8th graders to apply for enrollment on the "IB track" when they begin 9th grade at Littleton High School?

The reasons are twofold:

First, some of our IB DP courses have prerequisites that students must take in the 9th or 10th grades. By indicating as incoming 9th graders that they intend to pursue the IB DP, students become active in our IB databases where we check their academic progress and course enrollment to be sure they have what they need before they enter IB as 11th graders.

Next, Littleton High School is fortunate to have a very active IB Parent Organization (IBPO) which hosts informative meetings and get-togethers throughout the school year. When students enroll on the "IB track," their parents may participate in IBPO events and receive communications about meetings, special programs and social happenings.

For more information about IBPO, click on the IB Parent Organization tab in the purple box (above, right).
