GRADUATION WITH HONORS AND HIGH HONORS
The grade point average necessary for Graduation with Honors is 3.5.
The grade point average necessary for Graduation with High Honors is 3.8.
GRADUATION POLICIES
One diploma is granted for all students completing the graduation requirements in grades 9-12.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
A student must earn a minimum of 210 credits in grades 9-12 to graduate from Littleton High School.
The minimum and maximum semester student loads shall be as follows (except as approved by the principal):
Grade 9..........................................30-35 credits
Grades 10 through 12....................28-35 credits
Students enrolled in the Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programs may be granted exceptions regarding the maximum semester student loads. An exception to the maximum class load involving students enrolled in the area vocational school classes or other unusual circumstances must receive counselor approval.
Credits must be earned in the following subjects areas in order to meet graduation requirements:
LANGUAGE ARTS--40 credits distributed as follows:
9th and 10th grade Language Arts.............................20 credits
electives.....................................................................20 credits
SOCIAL STUDIES--35 credits distributed as follows:
World Geography........................................10 credits
U.S. History................................................10 credits
World History.............................................10 credits
Civics............................................................5 credits
MATHEMATICS:
20 credits
SCIENCE:
20 credits of lab science credit
FINE ARTS/PRACTICAL ARTS--15 credits distributed as follows:
5 credits in Fine Arts (music, band, choir, drama, and/or art)
5 credits in Practical Arts
(technology education; business education, consumer and family studies, and/or vocational education)
5 additional credits must be taken in Practical Arts OR in Fine Arts
PHYSICAL EDUCATION--12 credits distributed as follows:
Personal Survival--3 credits
Swimming--4 credits.
Students must take a swimming course unless they can demonstrate proficiency by passing the swimming skills test.
Electives--In addition to the above each student must select other P.E. electives to complete the 12 required credits.
ADDITIONAL ELECTIVES --
68 credits
In addition to the above requirements each student must select other electives from the above areas of study to complete the total of 210 credits required to graduate.
OTHER GRADUATION CONSIDERATIONS
The school district grants an identical diploma to all students who have met minimum require-ments regardless of type of program completed.
Graduation credit shall not be granted for extracurricular activity participation.
Students who have completed the necessary credit for graduation at the end of the seventh semester may graduate at that time and participate in commencement exercises on May. Diplomas issued to graduates at the end of the first semester of the senior year will bear that date. A form requesting to graduate early must be completed and filed in the guidance office by the beginning of November. Students transferring to Littleton Public Schools during their senior year shall not be graduated before completion of eight full semesters including course work and residency from preceding schools. These senior transfer students shall be expected to carry a minimum senior course load while enrolled in the Littleton Public Schools.
Only students certified by their high school principal as having satisfactorily completed the district-approved program for graduation will be permitted to participate in the commencement ceremonies of their respective high schools. A senior transfer receiving a diploma from another high school may participate in commencement ceremonies.
Independent study programs and extension credit may be allowed for either required or elective graduation credit if cooperatively developed by the student and the appropriate subject area teacher and approved by the principal.
A written Individual Educational Program shall be developed for each handicapped student in accordance with established definitions and policies. Such a program shall describe necessary changes to requirements as established through individual school or district policy. Any changes related to the overall required number of credit hours deletion or substitution of required courses special provisions related to minimum competencies or necessary requirement changes within the individual courses shall be specified. Each student's Individual Educational Program is to be written annually by a committee which minimally includes a counselor, special educator, and the parent. Upon approval of the Individual Educational Program by the principal or designee director of special education or designee and the student's parents the Individual Education Program shall serve as the required course work for graduation of the student and the granting of a high school diploma.
